The Coal Shed is a luxury boutique bed and breakfast in a converted Coal Shed in the heart 

of the City of York. The property conversion was finished in 2017 and now has four ensuite rooms and the benefit of parking (a rarity in the centre of York) Situated just a five-minute stroll from the Minster, the walls and all that the historic city of York has to offer including Art Gallery, Railway Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre, Chocolate story and so much more. The Coal Shed sits next to the owner’s home but has independent access and parking. The building was used as a coal shed by the previous owners who were coal merchants. The building was cleared of coal and became storage for the current owners who decided it ought to be put to better use. Mike and Charmian decided to convert the building in 2016 and have created a unique, light and airy space for guests to enjoy. 

MIKE AND CHARMIAN

The Coal Shed is owned and run by Mike and Charmian Beaufoy. Mike is a project manager who runs projects throughout Yorkshire and sometimes beyond and Charmian is a jeweller who has a working studio adjacent to the property. They opened The Coal Shed to guests in 2017 – just before lock-down.
